“A Day Without Public Works,” is a ten-minute, lighthearted but thought-provoking video mockumentary about Los Angeles’ infrastructure that demonstrates the value of public works in the daily lives of Angelenos and delivers the message that support for infrastructure spending is critical to accommodate aging systems and the growing population. “A Day Without Public Works” seeks to educate residents and business owners about the need to upgrade and maintain sewers, streets, streetlights, urban forest, storm drains, and other systems to enhance and protect the quality of life in Los Angeles. The video presentation evolved from The Department of Public Works’ highly successful infrastructure awareness campaign, “Below It, On It, Above It.”

“We Work for the Department of Public Works” is an 8-minute infomercial about the people, services and programs of the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works. Focusing on the Department’s more than 5,700 workforce, actual employees featured describe how Public Works works to provide a better quality of life for Los Angeles residents. With an annual budget of more than $1 billion, it is the third largest municipal agency in the City and is responsible for construction, renovation and operation of public facilities and infrastructure. “We Work for the Department of Public Works,” is a component of the highly successful, award winning-infrastructure awareness campaign, “Below It, On It, Above It.”

“The L.A. Experience: 100 Years of Public Works" is a 40-minute video documentary, chronicles the history of the Department of Public Works, from its earliest days to the present, and its contributions to the City. As part of the Department’s centennial celebration, the documentary focuses on employees, past and present, that have made Los Angeles what it is today. Photos from as early as the 1870’s are used to show how services were delivered to the burgeoning metropolis. It includes incredible film footage of the streetcars that were the lifeline of Los Angeles during the early part of the last century and the dedication of City Hall in 1928.
